The
Dell Rapids Chamber of Commerce will be awarding their
annual Junior
Ambassador Scholarships on Sunday, June 29th, at 8:00 pm.
The scholarship award will consist of a first-place scholarship of
$600 and
a runner-up scholarship of $400 to be used during the 2009 –
future school year
at any institution of higher education.
Candidates will be
judged using the following criteria:
- Essay: “Why I
would like to represent Dell Rapids as a Junior Ambassador.” (two
copies, one for judges and keep one for yourself)
- Personal
interview with the judges.
- High school
academics
- High school
extra-curricular activities and community involvement.
- Impromptu
question during final evening program.
- Poise,
participation, and manners during interview and evening program.
Candidates will be
required to satisfy the following conditions:
- Must be a
junior at Dell Rapids Public or St. Mary’s High Schools. (2008 –
2009 school year).
- Submit
application by deadline of June 17, 2008.
- Prepare a list
of high school activities; describe areas of community involvement,
compose essay, obtain copy of high school transcript, and submit all
documents by the appropriate deadlines.
- Make
arrangements for a vehicle to ride in the Quarry Days Parade, which
will be on Saturday.
- Wear formal or
dressy attire for the parade and the Sunday evening program.
- Prepare for,
and arrive at the scheduled time for your personal interview with
the judges. These will be conducted on Sunday. You will be
notified of the time and location.
- Arrive
prepared and on time for all events and appointments.
